On 19th November the faculty of the Noblest profession at IUIU Main Campus held a meeting that lasted for less than 7 minutes after members failing to adopt the agenda.
The increasing arguments about the time that the meeting was to spend made the Faculty Dean quit before even the start. The angry dean at one point asked the members whether she could leave but the crowd replied Go. This made the assembly flop.
Following the above, a one student in his year 4 wrote a letter requesting the Academic Registrar to intervene in the matter for the good of both the university and faculty and also the issue of paying the subscription fee before getting examination cards which to them(students) isn’t a university policy.
Tumwa Ramathan said in his letter that they(law students) are mandated to clear to zero balance as a university policy before getting their examination cards.
According to our insider, The AR replied to the letter immediately and asked the faculty to clear all students that had settled their balances to zero with the bursary. On that very day 21st November, students started picking their cards despite not paying the LSS fee.
Students also went further and asked for a clear accountability of the LSS subscription before the continuous payments.
One student told us that the students subscription fee is to facilitate students activities and not Faculty/University activities.
“Organizing moots, debates and hiring magistrates or judges are university requirements”, the student told us.
He also added, “Our money is to facilitate law weeks, sports activities and general assemblies but not buying curtains in the library”. “What will the university do?”, He asked.
