Renown Catholic Priest Fr. Deogratius Kiibi who rose to fame after preaching at the requiem mass of the late music icon Mozey Radio has been caught on the wrong side of the law after he was found delivering a sermon to a congregation at Mpigi Town Catholic Parish in Mpigi district despite Presidential guidelines against public gatherings.
The President of Uganda halted large public gatherings such as religious services and directed that weddings and funerals should have only a few individuals in a bid to slow down the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, Fr. Deogratius Kiibi did not heed to this directive and went ahead to preach to his flock in Mpigi district. Police were alerted through a tipoff from a member of the public and swung into action, arresting him along with several other church members.
According to the District Internal Security Officer, Captain Godfrey Marovu, the man of God was arrested along with seven other followers for violating the 30-day ban on public gatherings. They are currently being held at Mpigi Central Police Station pending further investigations.
